Haystack Mountain Golf Course
History of Haystack Mountain
Preforming as the first person to own Haystack Mountain, Mary Bader Arbuthnot. Mary lived at Haystack Mountain from 1867 to 1923.
Mary returns to her beloved home to share the stories of those who once lived there. From the Arapaho, the gold miners, then homesteaders, Mary shares all the different ways that Haystack Mountain has served in the survival of these people.
Bring your own lawn chair and enjoy the stories of life as it was once lived at Haystack. Birthday cake will be served in honor of William Arbuthnot who arrived at Haystack Mountain in 1859. William was born on Aug. 30, 1835 and died at Haystack Mountain on April 21, 1882.
| Donlyn holds the buffalo gun that the Arbuthnot men brought with them in 1859. Preforming as Mary Bader Arbuthnot, Haystack Mountain Golf Course. |
For those of you who attended last year,
I will have some new stories which answer some of the questions that you asked. I hope that you will join us again this year, as I have learned much as I continue to research.
-- Donlyn
"Donlyn's character interpretation of Mary Bader Arbuthnot is enhanced by her total immersion in the image of this strong pioneer woman. Fielding questions from the audience is downright fun as she holds fast to her presence in the 19th Century. It takes a comprehensive knowledge of local history to pull this off, and Donlyn is a master."
-- Anne Dyni, Historian; Niwot Historical Society; Niwot, Colorado
